Schools Helping Schools

Ladera Del Norte Elementary School in Farmington, New Mexico, sponsored the Kare 4 Kids fundraiser in February of 2011.  MCF Executive Director, Alan Schooley, met with two of the Fourth Grade classes to give them an overview of the situation in Malawi and MCF’s mission.  The gifted classes made posters, decorated collection boxes and performed skits to raise money for school supplies for children at the Nkhoma Primary School.  The students raised $886.35 during the program.  MCF sent $500 of the funds to a nurse from South Africa, who coordinates some of our efforts in Malawi.  After a needs assessment and discussions with the headmaster of the school, MCF used the funds to purchase supplies for the school.  The remaining funds will be sent for use prior to the start of the 2011-2012 school year.

In response to an article about the Kare 4 Kids program in the San Juan County Kids newspaper, MCF’s Executive Director was approached by a parent from another elementary school, who would like for her child’s school to do a similar project next year.

The Schools Helping Schools Program will not only provide support to primary schools in Malawi, but also serve as a means to teach students in the United States about the needs of developing countries and ways we all can help.
